Herb----I'm not at all familiar with the JD model your friend is considering

 
We have a now still new DK55 Kioti tractor and choose the industrial tread
tires.  This tread design is sort of compromise between aggressive
agricultural tires and the turf tires. The industrial tires are considerably
wider than the ag. Tires.  Less compaction and still fairly good traction.
Not sure if any of this information will help.
