My 79 Jeep with a 304 engine had that type of filter. The smaller nipple is
for return to the fuel tank. This is suppose to help prevent vapor lock, by
having a continuous flow of fuel.

Subject: [AT] Fuel filter question
A friend gave me some in-line fuel filters that I hope to use on my
tractors that have one inlet on one end and two outlets (?) on the
other. One of the outlets (?) is smaller than the other two (about
1/4" dia.). What is the smaller outlet for??? John W.
