[AT] Off Topic - Car Insurance

I have 3 vehicles with full coverage with Progressive. $1000 deductible,
and it is about $1000/year. Most of the money pays for a 2004 Chevy crew
cab dually (a $55,000 truck new). I have never had a claim, so I can't say
how good they are at paying.
I also have two motorcycles and a pickup camper insured under Progressive.
I had Progressive for a while, then switched to the same company that does
my homeowners, then back to progressive. All insurance rates creep up over
time and it seems the only way around it is to switch companies. This last
switch saved me about $200/yr, but the biggest reason I switched back was
that Progressive knew what a pickup camper was. I was never really
comfortable with the camper insurance with the other plan. I had the feeling
that they kept thinking it was a $500 topper that I was trying to insure.
-- It would cost over $20,000 to replace it with a new one.

Personally, I go for a pretty high deductible - as high as you can afford -
since I will pay anything under $1000 just to avoid my insurance going up.
I also have as large of a liability coverage as I can get with them. I think
it is 300,000/500,000. You could crash into a lot of things anymore that
are worth more than $100,000 and you will be liable for anything that your
insurance doesn't cover.

Subject: [AT] Off Topic - Car Insurance

Yes, this subject is way off topic but wondering if anyone can offer some
feedback.

Lat year I bought a 2006 Jeep Liberty Limited with a Diesel (which I do
like) and my insurance went up $400 to over $2000 here in eastern PA. Now I
did have a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee before that only cost me $1600. I can't
figure out why the increase. Its not like I had a bunch of tickets or
accidents (one deer). I do drive to work daily with a round trip of 90
miles. I thought the diesel may add additional costs but not sure.

I did a online quote with Progressive and Geico and both were much lower
with Geico around $800 less. Now I'm ondering if they just give you a good
rate in year one and then tack on more in the second year. Anyone have any
dealings with either of these that could provide some insight? Or just some
insight?

LeRoy
