There are already a bunch of those types in the hobby and we don't need any
more of them. I was at a show in PA a few years ago. Some jerk had an
early model AC B
-----------------------------snip
Couple years ago I bought a 57 IHC 350 utility (completley rebuilt engine been overhauled on and on......)
One of my freinds stopped by an seen a picture up on monitor screen, he had just bought his wife a new Chevrolet 3/4 P U truck. He said if I buy it we would go get it with their truck our trailer.
I call the guy (selling on ebay 0 feedback) And he not be home for 2 days and it was buy it now. So his wife told how much had been put into this restoration. I bid the BIN and started making arrangements to go git this fine tractor. It was in Crumpler, NC.
To make a long story short, hooked up and headed for Crumpler, NC
Nice drive Nashville hit I-40 drive most of a day and it was dark by the time we got there. I started the tractor jumped on it backed it out hit 5th gear and took off down the lane. Woha the front wheels were floppin like a fish out of water,
1/2 aturn freeplay in steering. Non power steering, since then I found a good power steering unit off a 460 U but have not installed it yet hate to go wrenching on those nice painted hood bolts.
Drove it back in 3 gear shut it off restarted and checked lift PTO all that seemed to work the T/A growl a bit on the pull back.
anyways I offer him 1/2 price what I done bid on ebay and he took it.
We loaded up paid the man headed for the highway, this place was over a mountain little crooked roads. I geuss it was midnight by the time we got on the interstate hwy in VA. The trailer had no lights at all no tag KY dont say ya need one. I will say we put that chevrolet to the test like 80 downhill and 65-70 uphill with that engine tachin 7000, and still getting blown away by semi trucks.
After getting home and unloading the newly restored tractor . I got to looking at it close, they had painted over mud daubers hoses everything was RED plug wires dist cap steering wheel. I think they even painted the tires, then had new ones put on it.
Now this tractor has been sittingt around here mostly inside but whatever kind of paint it has on it is the best I have ever seen. It looks like auto pain of some kind, just have to watch them restorations. Oil pressure line was mashed off, but it does hold pretty good pressure after running awhile. The engine had not been apart in years mabe since new, just nice red paint.
Watch those restorations selling on ebay.
Heavy little sucker, I took it to a local tractor pull after cleaning 5# junk out of gas tank :-) and that thing weighed 5550
it done ok for a fresh overhauled 175c
