Folks-
  My dear childhood friend Karen and her mate John are moving to Des  Moines, Iowa sometime in March.  She/they have lived in and  uprooted from Vancouver, B.C., Toronto, New York, and so forth.
  They know no one in Iowa and, certainly, very little of the city nor  state.  Can any of you give some sage advice in terms of where to  choose to live in the capital city and anything else you might have to  offer?
