Len,
You say you don't want your dependence for heat to be electric ?
Don't forget the vast majority
of heating controls are electrical. No electric - No heat !!
I installed in my shop (garage) a "Through - The - Wall" furnace.
( It draws air from outside for
combustion and expells the same way.) The controls of this furnace
are a micro self generating
type. No outside electric involved. I also have the same type of
controls controlling my furnaces
in my shop - barn at the farm. They caution not to place the
thermostat directly on any OUTSIDE
wall.
