[Farmall] Cold and starting fluid

It has been a long time since I have sent a message to the list.
 
Southern Iowa has had more than our share of ice the past few weeks.  Any ice is too much!!
We were without electricity for a couple of days, and I had friends and neighbors without
for over a week.
 
I would love to see 47 degrees again.
 
My generator was out in the cold garage, so I gave it a shot of ether in the air intake, and
it started right off. 
 
This is kind of a winter time topic to discuss, so what do people say about using ether on a gas
engine?   I have heard that is is not recommended, but I have heard as long as you don't use much 
of it, it is okay.
