[Farmall] I hate mice

James,

Don't get me wrong I fully agree that something needs to be done, but when
big brother won't allow the smart management of wildlife, forests, etc
troubles will happen. The poor deer you guy's are dealing with will soon be
running out of food if they have not already. Not to mention how many
people have had to die, due to automobile accidents they have caused. Just
wait until they become so accustomed to being around houses and get so
hungry that they start forcing their way into people's homes through doors
and windows.

YES we do need a government, but I think most of you would agree that it's
gotten way out of hand. "Big Brother" has just got his hands in too much of
our lives. Hopefully we will never see the transformation of our way of
life into Socialism, but it is headed that way isn't it.

Soap Box off<grin>.

I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and will have a Blessed New year

Bobby-
It is a complex problem...
I want to protect my pool....a farmer wants to protect his fruit trees....a
tractor fan wants to protect his machinery. All of this in contrast to the
natural desire of indigenous species from doing what THEY want to do which
is, to say, survive. There is no easy answer but there are many questions.
What best to do, I do not know.

hurting the animals more than helping them. For some reason today's society
has a problem on being in the middle of the road, your either right or
wrong.

We had a similar problem some years back with squirrel, the population got
so heavy that the older males started castrating any younger males. This
soon got to the point that no males in the area were able to reproduce.
After it was all said and done the squirrel population had all but
disappeared. It was 4 years before we started seeing any squirrels again.
It's a shame they don't make a live trap big enough so you can catch and
relocate.....

Bob and all-
Well, the DEC "agent" came for a visit....nice fellow, spent an hour or so
looking around. Bottom line, no liberal nuisance permit. I got something
of what seemed to be a "canned speech" about excessive deer populations,
suburban sprawl, and so forth. He suggested that I (a) increase the height
of my pool fence enclosure, (b) put up "snow fence" perimeter about six feet
in parallel to the permanent fence, (c) mix up a concoction of milk, egg,
and dish washing detergent and spraying about. If what I would judge to be
a "bad situation" was to come up again, I would be "justified" in making a
kill. However, to simply "pop them off" at random would not be condoned.
There it is.
