This is real common in Cat starting engines because gas is gravity fed to 
a downdraft carburetor. It often results in an engine that will not keep 
running but can result in engine failure at lesser dilution levels. That 
is why it is a good idea to shut off the gas and run the carb dry to stop 
them.
