There are those of you that can explain in detail why ignition systems work. Then there are those of us that just take the dang thinks apart and fix them and don't really care the why's. Of course I stick to magnetos--real tractors don't use distributors. Two of the most common mags I work on are IHC F4 and the Wico XH---both have ground wires. John Hall
