[AT] grounded coil

Ron/Walt,
Electricity isn't magic. It requires a current path, thus a
ground of some sort is necessary. The engine is one big block of
metal, forming the ground line between the coil and the spark plug.
The only kind of electricity that does not need a ground path is
static electricity... better known as lightning. Since you're not
working with that, maybe you should ask those folks that actually have
the education and knowledge of these things.

I push electrons for a living. Transformers (which is what coils are)
require a ground in addition to the high voltage output.

Here's a test for you. Take the cover off your computer and open up
the enclosed box in the corner (the one with the fan on it). Look in
there at the transformers.. they will probably have nice little toroid
coils with magnet wire on them. Cut (use a big wirecutters) the ground
on any of them and put it back together and email me what you find. If
your theory is correct nothing will be adversely affected.

I await your reply.
