I just re-read your post.  Until the clamp is loosened, it may be difficult 
or impossible to move the wheel with any type pulling technique.  What a bummer 
that the hub has been reversed and the clamp is near the axle housing!!!  
Bruce Mahr's suggestion sounds like it might work.  Good luck!!
