Larry,
   Gold is 23.9999999999 K when ready for storage You couldn't tell the
difference if you were God. They only say that because if there should
be some tiny thing in it they won't get sued by some sharp lawyer by
calling it 24 K

PS I don't think there are any chemicals in pure Gold. My feeling is the
old guy was fooling with some one.
