[AJD] JD A Head gasket question

In anticipation of soon having a stuck 1950 ANHC to
work on,  I have begun replacing the block on my 1950
A.  (I am ready to slide the pistons in and
re-assemble)

   On a caterpillar board that I frequent,  there was
discussion of using an Aircraft Grade Permatex on the
head gaskets to ensure a good seal.  Apparently the
old Cat's are similar to old Deere's as far as getting
head gaskets to seal right.  Has anyone heard of doing
this?  I have alwaye been told not to use a sealer on
a head gasket.

    Also,  Does the metal side of the head gasket go
twords the head?  Usually the are marked but I guess
Felpro decided not to mark this one.
