OK, talked to the transmission guy again.  Like you guys said, a 400 case is 
a 400 case, except he doesn't want to use one with the thin flange at the 
front.  He said there are two braces that bolt on there and the thin case 
will not have enought threads to hold the thicker cover and the braces.(The 
4X4 case only was my misunderstanding)

The reason he doesn't want to go with a used transmission is ,unless it 
happens to have right length output shaft, he would have to tear both of 
them apart to get the parts he needs to put one togather.  Adding to the 
labour.

So, I guess I would be good to go with any 400 case that has the thick front 
flange.
