I want to thank every one that answered my post. I wanted to add that I was
a small child when my dad and grandpa had this. Of course after all these
years the motor has long gone but the cutter bar was still in the barn and
it is about five feet long. I never thought about the chain saw being home
made back then but dad and gramps always made what they needed for the farm
and only bought things when they were really needed. I hope to get back up
to the farm and see if they still have any pictures of this go cart with a
good shot of the engine and if I can find one I will post it. Again thanks
for all your help guys on this project.

Lyle,  back in the 50's there were Scott Atwater outboard motors.  I think 
Sears sold them or maybe Montgomery Ward.  It would just about have to be 
the same outfit.
