[Farmall] 90-degree distributor drives

My M has one of those, so the distributor points up rather than to the rear
of the tractor, but the Super M I had some years ago had a straight drive.
Today I looked a bunch of Ms and Hs and Supers at the Old Timers Days show
in Xenia, Ohio. I didn't count but it seems like more than half were
straight drive but a lot had the 90-degree drives.

What's the advantage of the right angle? Seems like it'd just be one more
thing to go wrong, so I'm trying to figure out why it was available to begin
with. Clearance for mounted implements of some sort?

p.s. Got to visit with Gene Dotson a bit, as he'd come down to the show
also. He brought me some parts for the Case VAH, so next time I go up to my
dad's I can mess with that one for a while also. Thanks, Gene!
