[AT] electrical aid

First off, confirm that the alternator has the same polarity for ground as
the tractor. If not, you can just reverse the battery to change the
polarity of the tractor. If you reverse the battery, this will make your
ammeter run backwards, and you can either live with that or switch the wires
around on the ammeter.

Then mount the alternator and run the B for Battery wire that used to
connect to your regulator over to the one wire terminal of the alternator.
With a little luck that's all you need to do.

You may have trouble "starting" the alternator. Rev the engine up and see
if you can get the alternator to kick in. If it does not, you will have to
manually excite the alternator windings. That amounts to shooting a very
short battery charge to a terminal on the alternator. But I don't know
where this terminal is on your alternator, perhaps others with more current
knowledge can fill in what to look for. I made this conversion for a B John
Deere several years ago and ended up with a push button on the dash to
excite the alternator. Problem was to remember to push it each time after I
started the tractor.

Best of luck!

Subject: [AT] electrical aid

I could use some help in this area for sure. The limit of my vehicle
electrical knowledge barely extends beyond reading the plusses and minuses
on top of a battery.

I want to remove a generator (with remote regulator) from a crawler loader I
have and replace it with a one wire, built in regulator alternator, which I
fortunately have on hand. (mounting brackets and pulley is the same) I would
of course like to run it through the ammeter on the dash.

So.........my question is: Starting from the wire on the back of the
alternator, where do I run the wire so that I can charge the battery and
have the amperage gauge indicate proper charging. Simple enough, for you
guys maybe, but keep it that way for me too. Consider this an "Elektricity
for the Compleat Idiot" primer.

Thanks in advance for all your help.
