Subject: [Steam-engine] Oil Grooves

I am in the middle of pouring the main bearings on the
Huber and I have a question about the oil grooves in
the lower half. The oil feed in only on the top half
(cap) so I will cut in X grooves on the cap. What
kind of oil groove, if any, should be on the bottom
half of the bearing?

I'm no expert, Andy, so take what I say with a grain of salt.

I would not groove the lower half of the bearing. You want a surface that
the oil wedge can push against. A groove will reduce the size of that
surface.

The groove in the upper half is just fine for distributing the lube. Once
it is distributed, you want it to do its job.

My 2¢

So many projects. So little time.
