The tractor is the last of the 4 cylinder machines (1956-8) that started
out as the Farmall M in 1939. The 450 has live hydraulics, disc brakes,
55 hp, 5 speed trans (I don't think this one has the optional Torque
Amplifier, which would give it 10 speeds). I can't tell from the image
if it has a Fast Hitch or not. The loader is an IH 1701, which is very
strong - the same one I had on my Farmall 706 - and can lift anything
you can get into the bucket. This one also has a wide front end, which
some folks consider highly desirable.
On the minus side, this is a fairly large tractor by 1957 standards, and
is likely to weigh close to 7000 lbs with the loader and some kind of
rear/tire weights. The wheels look like nothing I have ever seen on an
IH tractor, but otherwise it looks pretty good. As I mentioned in the
message, my trailer could not handle either the weight nor the width of
the rear tires, so it is out of the question for me.
Honesdale is up near the Scranton area.
