Ed,

Arden is just outside of Asheville and there are lots of interesting things 
to do there.  It is beautiful country.  If you have time you might enjoy 
touring the Biltmore Estate http://www.biltmore.com/.

A word of warning.  If you decide to go to Biltmore you will need the better 
part of a day to see it all but it's well worth the trip if you are 
interested in seeing such things.  The behind the scenes tour shows the 
inner workings of the house.  I really enjoyed that.
