[This came to me from a "rail critters" list, but I thought it might
interest one of the FATGs. Neither Jay Reed nor I know anything more
than what is on the seller's listing. Mike]
Might anyone be looking for a 1930's gas roller to restore ? Or
anybody that might know anybody want such a beast. Near me (north of
San Francisco) someone is looking to give away a 1930's gas roller. It
looks complete, but doesn't run at the moment. It is a Navy veteran,
as per the word Navy cast into the body. The owner says that it is a
Hercules, but I wonder if this in not actually the make of the 6
cylinder flathead engine that powers it.
At any rate, the price is right, but time is short. He will be happy
to give it away as scrap as a museum piece - he just wants it gone.
The current owner says that one would need to "bring a low-boy 40'
trailer to move it, with a rigger or large winch, 20 tons or more"
It would look great restored and in a period Navy setting.
At any rate, photos and contact information can be seen at:
<http://sfbay.craigslist.org/nby/zip/235079564.html> or contact me
<jayreed at sonic.net>, if
this link doesn't work. If nothing else, maybe the vintage Hercules
engine could be rescued for restoration.
With best regards,
Jay Reed
