  Thanks I will try that torque.  The manual I had just said to tighten the bolts. You are correct the shims are available from Deere at ners $40.00 each. I may try the beer can plan mentioned by Bill Brueck.

I think shims are still available from Deere. Sometimes you can find them
on ebay. The fastest and probably the cheapest place is a tractor salvage
yard.

I am in the process of reassembling a John Deere 1950 model B that still has
the babbitted rods. Does anyone know what the torque should be on the rod
bolts? Also I am looking for a source of shims for the rods. Any help
would be appreciated.
