[AT] Deere plant visit

Very possible. All I remember from the John Deere-L was the patina of
polished steel on the whole bar. A couple of summers ago, we toured
around some of the Amish settlements just north of Salt Fork in east
central Ohio and I saw a John Deere horse-drawn mower being pulled by a
couple of Belgians. The whole mower was rust-colored and the seat was
missing. It was being driven by a 10 to 12-year-old kid who was
barefoot and standing on the mower frame with wet rye grass all over it.
Of course, the kid didn't bother to take the mower out of gear when he
stopped, so every time the team moved around a little bit, the knife
started working.

It made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. I'm sure anyone from
OSHA would have had a heart attack.

Larry:

I'm not sure I agree with that. Rock guards may be green but I'm pretty
sure
the bar itself remained black.

The sickle bar is green, Walt. Anybody who has ever had to buy
replacement rock guards knows that. The big question should be: Of the
several official John Deere green colors, which one is the right one? I
kind of smile to myself when I go to shows and find restored letter
series John Deere's sporting the four-digit model paint.
