[AT] Having battery problems--so how to fix?

I've done that as well but in the case I described earlier the engine and 
battery were so cold they wouldn't turn fast enough to crank.
WA..........WA..........WAaaaaa.   Putting heat on the block and near the 
battery solved the problem.
