Leadloy, such as 11L17 or 12L14 makes some nice looking lathe parts. Easy 
chip control. Wouldn't want it for high strength applications though.

A-36 is some pretty tough stuff. It can be nasty. I have actually seen us 
hit stuff in A36 plate that couldn't be cut too well. If it is decent 
quality you can make some very nice looking parts on the lathe.

Tool steels vary greatly. With them its all about the shape of the part, 
heat treating, and final application. Choose the wrong matl and it can be 
very costly to manufacture the part or the finished part may fail.
