John i use the flux covered rod picked up a whole canister of it at an  
auction last year for $15.00.  I also use the flux covered silver solder it  more 
expensive but when you need the strength it well worth the cost. One  advantage 
to this type of welding is you heat the more of the item as you go  along 
with the weld.
