I guess we are lucky here in Sask. that farmers are allowed to use their
atv's (quads, trikes) on municipal gravel roads to get around and check
their crops even though not licensed. Helmets are required as is liability
insurance. In this time of expensive fuel it is great to be able to drive a
40 mpg Honda trike to check crops as compared to most of my other vehicles
that might see 20 mpg on a good day. Visibility is great for checking weeds,
crop height, pests, etc. Off road capability is good and when I get stuck in
the mud I can just get off and push it out (like yesterday). The clutchless
transmission is excellent for one hand driving (slowly of course) carrying
machinery parts, crop samples, scrap iron, gopher gun, etc. Cargo rack rear
and front will hold a lot of stuff, not like a truck of course but better
than a tractor.
On the road its slow but still twice as fast as any of my tractors. But then
30 mph is plenty fast enough when checking crops from the roads. A super low
"stump pulling" gear is excellent for crawling along fence lines and
checking posts without getting off the trike or even stopping.
Got some recent crop and trike pics up on my website showing how the crops
are developing here.
