Yes Walt:
I do live in a third world country Where it ranges from 110 deg in summer to 
20 in winter, where everyone is just concerned about getting by.  We cannot 
afford to spend the time and money to do things the right way because we are 
too concerned with tryiing to win the big one at the Tribal casinos and the 
state lottery..     However, I would like to work in an environment where 90 
deg is hot, and it never gets below 40 in the winter...  Utopia is a great 
place to visit, but it is probably awfully dull.

Seriously, I have run gearboxes on No. 2 emerald gun grease for many many 
years and not damaged the gears or bearings.   A lot of the old LA Case 
tractors around used that for rear end lube because the housing bolts had 
got loose and the gasket pounded out before it was noticed.  They were still 
pulling fine when they were parked in favor of airconditioned cabs....
