Not trying to pick a fight but it has been my personal experience that
some of those jury rigged items were better than original. Why just do
it "right" if you can do it "better?"  I agree though, do it right the
first time when at all possible but from a farmer standpoint, if there's
a crop to put in the field or get out of the field and you can't do that
without a "creative" repair, the expense of doing it again the "correct"
way later pales in comparison to the potential loss of not getting the
crop in or out on time.

Every time we get an old  piece of equipment to restore the first thing
we do 
is replace all those jury  rigged things that people like you put on it.

I'm not in a dream world I'm  just one who likes to do the job correctly
the 
first time and not have to do it  over later because it didn't work.
But you just go ahead and do your  old farmer baling wire repairs if it
keeps 
you happy.
