Lyle, I have both in town. Got the coil at Case-IH and will try them
first. Thanks

Larry

I do not know if you have stores like Auto Zone or NAPA in your area but
they should have the equipment to check the coil. Any yes a new coil can be
bad as with any electrical parts.

May the Lord be with each and everyone this beautiful day that the Lord has
given each and every one of us to enjoy and behold!

George, I put a new coil on. However, no spark to the points. I took the
wire off from the coil to the distributor and flashed it to ground. No
spark. I checked and run a wire from the negative to positive side of input
to the coil and got a spark. So I have spark going into the coil. Now it
is a new coil.

Also, I connected battery cables from the battery to the positive and
negative side of the coil and got some spark. So some voltage going through
the coil, but I would say not much. I did this with the coil I took off and
got the same.

Can a new coil be bad; or would there be something happening to make a new
coil go bad? Got me baffled

Thanks for the help.

Larry

Larry,

It isn't necessary to crank the engine... just open and close the points
manually. (the points should spark slightly) If that doesn't get a spark
remove the wire from the coil at the distributor and flash it to ground. It
should have an output spark each time it is flashed. If you don't get a
good secondary spark then the coil is bad or there is no voltage to the
coil.
