[Farmall] Farmall 340 Not starting

George, I am not getting a spark from the coil to the distributor. I
pulled the wire off the distributor that comes from the coil. The put the
end pulled from the distributor near the frame of the tractor. I then
cranked the tractor and no spark. I put it near where the ground (positive)
wire goes into the distributor. Cranked the tractor and no spark. It is a
new coil.

I am puzzled.

Thanks

Larry

Larry,

How the voltage responds to your test is dependent on whether the points are
open or closed. The "pretty good spark" you get is an indication the points
are closed at that moment. You can open and close the points with a
screwdriver to see if you can get spark from the coil. You should be able
to.
