Kreig,

A standard LED, when lit, drops about .70 volts across it and likes to have
about .015 amps being drawn.  6 volts - .7 volts = 5.3 volts.  5.3 / .015 =
454 ohms.
So, put a 450 ohm resistor in series with the LED and it will work nicely on
6 volts.
