Dean,
I know that you are correct and I know that I am cheating even if Just a
little but to make it right the big tractor pulling ass. here has made two
classes of tractors those that are pretty much stock and those that are not. I
fall into the latter class because I don't use a muffler. I still don't win but
i like to see just what I can do against the big guys.
I actually have the most fun at the oldtime sled pull at Brooks its just for
fun and everyone gets a little medal showing that they competed. the big
guys come there and just spin there tires because you start out with almost a
full load and its real hard to get that sled to move with another Case LA
sitting on it. I even tried with two tractors once I did pretty good till I lost
traction on the left wheel.
When I'm running good I do good but my tractor has a habit of not running
good all the time.
One time when it was really running good I accidentally put it in second
gear I made the fastest pull of the day and it was full pull to my surprise.
Got a real standing ovation when I drove back past the crowd.
then their was this guy with a Massey Harris with a 6/71 GMC in it made a
lot of noise looked real good all painted up and running hotter than "H" he lost
it right after he let the clutch out didn't budge the sled 1 in.
he looked pretty down as he drove off. I had just made a pretty good pull
about 1/3 the way down with the same two tractors on the sled.
But you are right we should all try to be as stock as one can be. I know
that's not possible because these are old machines and need to be bored out or
heads shaved just to get them running so most pulls will allow some of this
but not the guy who takes his LA out to 900 in. or puts a big Jimmy in that
wasn't stock in the first place.
Hey I'm just rambling on here sorry about that.
