Early December it was 6.20 per bag or 5.40 by the ton.  I buy from a local equipment rental that supplies all the industrial painting equipment and supplies locally.  Sand was about a dollar a bag cheaper, but it varies with grade (size) somewhat.  We have a member of our tractor club that will sell it bulk to us as he buys it in 40K loads in several grades.  He also will get it for us in bags.  But it is not always convenient to go by his place with barrels or bulk containers.  

We have local iron foundries that produce a lot of slag and put it in their own landfills.  Wish there was a way to roll it to size as I can buy slag at the plants for about $10/ton.

I agree with you Jim.  The black stuff works well and only cost about 20% 
more than sand.  Just make sure you buy good name brand black stuff like 
"Black Beauty".  I've known of cheap, bulk blast media being highly lead 
contaminated.
