[AT] Sandblasting safety

This thread reminds me why I use a needle scaler for paint removal. All
I have to worry about when using that is that I protect myself from
air-borne lead in the paint chips. I've never looked in a mirror when
I'm dressed for part cleaning, but I'm sure I must be a sight -- NIOSH
respirator, safety goggles, 20 dB ear muffs...

I always use a supplied air hood. I bought one about 20 years agos when
I
started working on this junk.... Bought a filter for the system after I
got
silicosis from the compressor air. Coughed up oil for about 3 days
after
one tractor sandblasting. I am paying for it now.. Haven't been able
to
breathe without help for the last 2 weeks..... I can't stress how
important it is to use a good respirator on sandblasting. I have to
use a
supplied air respirator when welding or using the plasma cutter now.....
