[AJD] LA axles

Okay this is my first total tear down and I am having a hard time getting  
the rear axles out of the housing. I have read in one book where it says to  
"beat them in" for reassembly. Are they pressed in or do I just take a BMFH and  
pound them out and do the reverse to get them back in?
