Dean-
Thanks for the heads up on this cultivator. The model 821 was used on GP
Wide Treads. The way I read the manual, it could either be a drawn
implement, or with an optional kit, lifted by the tractor. Looking at the
parts, I think a reasonable reproduction lift kit could be put together.
Where did you get the information that pegged it to first available in 1935?
It did not show up in my 1930 Plow book but was in my 1938 book. I agree it
will make a wonderful display. We have a mounted two row cotton and corn
lister planter on a Wide Tread now and this cultivator will fill in more of
the story. I sure would like to know what the differences were between the
821, the A821, and the B821. If you or anyone has any literature on this
piece, I would be very interested in either purchasing it or getting a copy.
Thanks,
Michael

Subject: [AJD] Really interesting JD Implement - 821 Cultivator

We didn't have Listed crops on our farm in NW Iowa so any listing implements
are a bit strange to me but this Listed Corn Cultivator is really
interesting. Not sure I understand how one manually lifts this with the
levers. I assume when lifted it rides on the four skinny wheels
but.......???

It appears to me to be a pull type JD Model 821 Listed Corn Cultivator. It
was also made to be used as an integral implement on the back of a letter
series tractor lifted with the rockshaft. Made from 1935- . I suspect
it would be nearly impossible to find the parts needed to convert this to an
integral version. It would really make an interesting display at shows and
parades. Looks like it is in good enough shape to be restorable. I don't
think I have ever seen any listing implements out here at all.

See eBay auction # 7584757655

The model # is a bit odd too since JD made a model 821 roll-over two way
moldboard plow for the first numbered series 20 years later
