[AT] Old shop lathe motor-- motor questions for you "experts"

     Back around 1975-76, the company I worked, for built some special 
fixturing to hold 
     very large electric motor frames for rewinding.

     They were rebuilt using the newer types of insulation.   They didn't 
require the heavy 
     thick insulation any longer which allowed them to install more copper in 
the frames and
     this allowed very substantial increase in horsepower.   They increased 
the HP by some
     200 to three hundred horse power, depending on the size of the motor 
originally.

     They tested these units at night when the electric rate was cheaper.  
They were paired
     up with large generators and then pumped the excess electric back out 
into the
     system. 

     These motors started out at 800 to 1,000 hp..... . 'Biggins'  !!!
