[Steam-engine] Condensing Steam Cars

I know that some makers of steam cars made models that
condensed the exhaust steam into water so that it
could be used again.  How did they separate the steam
cylinder oil from the water?  I thought that the
animal tallow made the oil mix with the water and you
couldn't separate them.
