H L you just learned why you can't trust an old mechanic giggle.  
someone probably replaced that starter years ago and didn't notice the  
difference. With old equipment you have to look at all angles and see what  someone 
great mechanic did in the past just to get by. My old 1945 Case LA  has had 
all kinds of things done to it over the pat 60 years I keep finding  little 
things here and there that are not correct.
