[Steam-engine] Wauseon and Inspections

Beth,

...and anyone who is wondering, I'll explain what happened last year with
the golf cart.

I was having one of those days; you know the kind, where nothing on the
engine wants to cooperate. Specifically, I was having crosshead pump water
delivery problems. With a full boiler, I decided the best policy was to let
her cool down and seek some help. I knew Troy was a Peerless man, so I
sought him out. After finding him, we were in conversation heading back to
the engine and we had reached the front of the boiler where Troy was looking
at the engine. At the same time, an older gentleman with presumably his son
and 1.5 -2 year old grandson in tow, stopped in front of the engine beside
us set the brake and dismounted the gold cart. The grandson did not like
being left alone in the gold cart and walked across the floorboard in the
direction of the parent and grandparent. I heard the releasing click of the
brake and the golf cart engine rev and before either of us knew it, my leg
was pinned on the front wheel of my engine and Troy was forced under my
boiler and pinned limbo style. Fortunately, my wife Renee' was coming
around to the front of the engine and pushed, as best she could, the golf
cart back. I was OK. Troy was in much worse condition. He had racked
himself and was in quite a bit of pain. The grandfather, son, and child,
made a extremely quick exit without giving their names or caring much about
what condition Troy was in. The president of the club came over and
escorted Troy back to his camper on his doodlebug. Fortunately, my engine
did NOT have a full head of steam and was cooling down. This incident could
have been MUCH worse had the engine been at a full head of steam because it
has a wet smokebox.

Needless to say, Troy and I get a little jumpy when we hear golf carts.

All this could have been avoided by taking the key out of the ignition.

Cheers,

Paul Ward

Hi Paul,

Okay, we'll stop boring those that don't know that an errant child rammed a
golf cart into which helped him get branded by your Peerless!

Excellent example of why golf carts should not be left unattended - with the
key in them, let alone be in gear.

Beth

Beth,

Is there a reason Troy doesn't bring his Peerless? If this needs to be
taken off list, you know how to reach me....

Cheers,

Paul Ward
