[AJD] 1952 B Questions

  I bought a 1952B for parts about 5 months ago now. 
I really only wanted the one new rear tire in it. 
(Goodyear Tracation Torque 12.4 - 38)   As it turns
out I can't match up the tire as Goodyear no longer
makes it..  

  Anyway,  the guy I bought the B from bought it at an
auction with re-selling in mind.  I paid $500 for it. 
It turned over,  but the carb was not workable and it
had a top mounted starter adaptation and that didn't
work so well either.  The exaust had been routed to a
glass pack type muffler outside of the hood.  The
throttle had been moved to the shutter control,  the
throttle lever was broken off.  

   Much to my suprise it started today.  I installed
the correct starter underneath the tractor,  a DLTX-71
that I have as a spare for my A's,  and a Wico C mag
that I had on the shelf as a spare.   I also had to
build a fuel line but it fired the 2nd turn.

    It surges pretty badly and smokes black (too rich)
smoke.  

     My questions,  I heard people say that a DLTX-71
will run fine on a B,  I can easily blame this on
running poorly on the linkage and other issues that
still need to be worked out,  but I would like to hear
from someone that runs a different carb on a B,  It
should have a DLTX-67.

      Has anyone disassembled the steeing tower with
the levers in it?  It looks like a royal pain to get
all that stuff out and freed up.  I have another tower
with a good lever in it,  but the bottom lever is
broken,  so I am planning to take the good lower lever
off of the current one and put it on my spare.  But
everything on the spare is froze up solid..
