This is a typical example of the problems of warrantee repair work.
I've seen that sort of situation develop so many times that I lost
count.

My 4 year old Craftsman Mower lost it engine (rod went out the side) Had

plenty of oil too.
 
When they replaced it ( I have a  warrantee on it) they had to get
another 
engine that met the new smog regulations.  So I now have a  V-twin with
22 HP 
instead of an opposed twin with 19 HP.  
 
Funny they spent $2300 on a $1200 mower.
