Deere calls it soft black coating, It is Highly recommended over a rusty
plow as you found out!!

I had never painted a plow until last year.  I always just fought it for the

first few passes until it scoured, but the first job always seemed to be a 
garden, which isn't a good place to have a rusty plow.

I got a can of "plow coat" which is a flat black paint specifically for 
coating dirt tools.  It covered 2 of the 3 bottoms, I found a can of cold 
galvanize for the other.  This spring, the 2 bottoms with plow coat scoured 
immediately, the one with the other paint was a pain, almost as bad as 
before.  I think I'll buy 2 cans of plow coat next time!
