>From personal experiences , and I was legal , I wouldn`t began to think of
running off road diesel in a licensed vehicle on any highway for several
reasons , # 1 --- the dye can and will leave a red residue on the pump and
or fittings , # 2 --- you are taxed for every mile that vehicle has on it
from birth that you don`t have receipts for road fuel , # 3--- the state
tax division has already began their investigation into your purchases /
receipts after the samples were sent off to be analyzed but before you know
the results , # 4 --- The IRS is also involved to the point of the cheating
that has gone on ( lying about taxes you paid ) , and # 5 --- in Louisiana ,
you will forfeit your vehicle ( loose it ) . Bottom line is , when you get
caught , and you will ,you committed the crime , now you do the time .

Out of curiosity, do they check the tank or the tailpipe? Seems to me
the smarter folks would have a hidden spare tank on-board that has the
off-road stuff, and a normal, on-highway tank for inspection purposes.
If the dye shows up in the tailpipe though, that would certainly be
different.

How does the soy diesel and such get around the road taxes ? Is there a
special clause for alternative fuels? Or is it something Uncle Sam
already taxes?

(the only diesels I have are my Bobcat and my TD-14)
