John,
When you dig into it, it should come very clear, very quickly!
Sounds like you have a bad bearing to me, now I was never in the rearend of 
my la, very lucky guy! However my good friend Louie was in his rear end and 
tranny both, and if you email  or call me off line I will give you his phone 
# he is a great guy and would be very willing to help you out  with 
suggestions I am sure. That being said I am sure you will not find anything 
very complicated in that rear end.
