[AT] Canola

Charlie,,, canola is 50 pounds per bushel. Just checking this mornings price
locally I see its around the $6 per bushel mark after doing the metric
conversion. Thats considerably lower than last year's crop sold for but
fairly typical for this time of the year when the new crop is just coming in
off the field. I have'nt heard any yield reports yet but everyone is
expecting a bigger than average yield as we have had good growing conditions
all season. The best I have seen on my own farm is about 30 bushels per acre
but of course have heard many claims of higher yields by others. The price
per bushel is pretty changeable and I have seen it over the $10 mark
sometimes.
An interesting contrast is the seed cost for what what we put in the ground
. Mine was about $3.60 per pound this spring which by my figuring is about
$180 per bushel and it is not the most expensive variety out there. Plus
Monsanto wants their $15 per acre technology fee from every grower.
