[AT] OT computer question

I have some files on a hard drive in my old Win 98 desktop machine that I 
need.  For some reason the machine will not boot up.  I don't think it is 
the hard drive and I don't have time to worry about it.

If I take the HD out of that machine and put it in the external drive case I 
use with my XP powered laptop will I be able to retrieve those files?  I 
have the software that created them on both machines.
