[Steam-engine] Hauling trailer preference

Hey Mark,

I wondered where you went.

Depending on which engine you are hauling, either of those trailers could be
a good fit. As I have said before, I prefer our folding gooseneck double
drop because the gooseneck makes a nice ramp. However, it is tough to find
this type of trailer as the detaches are more prevalent.

We winch everything on for safety sake. I pull them on from the rear so
they drive right off. I can guide them on the trailer much better also.

Rubber belting is a great idea, but can be torn easily if you are loading
live & the ascent it great.

The rollback/Landoll trailers are really nice for the smaller engines.

The ultimate thing to keep in mind is cost. The ability to take your engine
at your convenience is tremendous, however, the maintenance, insurance, etc
can make it less attractive unless you can amortize the cost over other
operations.

Good Luck!
Beth

Mark, We alway use a low-boy. With canopy we are
just barely legal height on the trailor. We have a
large Minneapolis which is hard to pull on level
ground. I always steam on, and when possible
steam-off. I have to have at least 60lbs to hold it
safely as we come off the trailor. We use rubber
dairy mats to keep the engine from sliding on the
trailor, and from damagine the deck.
